Trend report: the flapper girl

The time turned back and the 20-ies are here all over again. It seems like every part of our society is determined to bring the 20-ies back to life. Designers are channelling  flapper dresses and T-strap shoes, directors produce 20-ies inspired films one after another, and economists do everything in their powers to reincarnate the Great Depression.  It’s said when the economy experiences a decline people look in the past seeking for comfort in history.  I think people generally tend to look in the past in an endless search for inspiration and beauty. For many reasons the 20-ies deserve to be admired and marvelled yet the “birth” of a flapper girl is the biggest one.
Those sparkly shift dresses could be why the flapper girl was adored. Or maybe her drinking, smoking and dancing habits were the true reason of men's affection and other girls’ envy gazes. Probably both. But most likely because the flapper girl was not afraid to show what she wanted. She wanted to have fun - she danced and drank. She wanted comfort - she chopped off her long hair and threw away corsets. She wanted to be noticed – she put make-up, a lot of make-up. She was emancipated, she didn’t care about a thing, she enjoyed life. Modern It girls yet have to learn a lot from the flapper girl.
So may be designers, producers, writers ( I leave economists in peace) are trying so hard to bring the 20-ies back not to find the alleged comfort but to remind people of having fun, enjoying beautiful things and living life? I toss my hair, smile and let my inner flapper girl jazz!
